Given the recent election results, some of my students and clients have been dreading facing their families over Thanksgiving. You see, many families are divided in whom they supported. Below is an amazing story of a client who has learned to self-regulate her mind, energy and body systems from wound and pain – back to wisdom and wholeness.
She found out what was really important to talk about with her loved ones, that can actually transcend any hurtful exchanges that could take place in this election cycle.
During this Thanksgiving, I encourage you to develop true intimacy with your family and to hopefully let yourself become inspired by my beloved client’s response to her very conservative brother’s post election facebook postings and texts.
This client is gay, a woman, and has complex trauma from severe childhood abuse. Yet, Mary (not her real name) found a way – through her pain – and used this difficult election results to bridge the gap between she and her FBI agent brother.
In my work, I teach clients how to use emotional pain and negative life events as the energetic portal back to wholeness, wisdom and positive creation. I also teach people that their current sense of self creates their reality. For instance, if you are connected to your wounded parts, you will create a reality that mirrors that wound and if you are connected to your bigger self, your reality will mirror that as well!
Mary’s story below exemplifies these principles and create deep healing so that this presidential election actually brought Mary and her brother closer together!
MARY’S STORY OF LOVE AND CONNECTION
Mary texted her brother the following after receiving some very cruel texts.
“PLEASE READ…this is love speaking…
…what I hope for is that one day (soon) we can have a real and true heart to heart connection/conversation about how we, as equal humans, FEEL inside, because that is what I am interested in with you…not the battle of the minds, but to have the opportunity to come to know who YOU really are, and for you to know who I really am, from my soul. And, truthfully, I think I have felt too afraid to go there with you because I perceive that this kind of vulnerability and these emotions are so difficult, for both of us…and now look where we are…I know we don’t agree on many ‘things’, but those things don’t matter.
I want to know how you feel inside when you think of Dad, and Mom. I want to know how you FEEL inside when you disagree with your wife, or when you look into her eyes. I want to be able to love you for WHO you truly are as a Spirit having a human experience, and I want to come to fully understand exactly what that is. And I want you to know that I love you, very much.”
His joking yet deep reply:
“As long as you swear allegiance to Orange Julius. (Their favorite childhood drink.) Just kidding. I’m down for it.”
Then Mary texted, “I love you.”
And her brother responded, “I love you too, Mary!”
There is a way you can use this election to bring your family closer together. It just takes opening to a deeper kind of intimacy and connection. A type of connection we all can experience and share. One that matters more.
So tomorrow, ask your family how it feels to look into the eyes of their wife or husband. What are their deepest fears, vulnerabilities, hopes and challenges?
